Hollyland has introduced the Pyro 5 4K, a compact production device that combines a field monitor, wireless transmitter, and receiver. The new model is designed to reduce the cables, separate boxes, and setup time normally associated with professional wireless video monitoring.
Although it builds on the existing Pyro 5, this version introduces three notable upgrades: end-to-end 4K30 transmission, wider support for direct camera control, and an Image Overlay tool for matching compositions between takes. These additions make it relevant to filmmakers, broadcasters, live-streaming teams, and small production crews.
End-to-End 4K30 Wireless Video
The main upgrade is the ability to transmit video wirelessly in 4K at 30 fps throughout the compatible Pyro ecosystem. This higher-resolution workflow can give directors, camera operators, and clients a clearer view of framing, focus, textures, and other visual details during production.
Hollyland uses its WiFiBroadcast technology to connect the Pyro 5 4K with other Pyro devices. In Broadcast Mode, one unit can send video to as many as four Pyro receivers or monitors at a line-of-sight distance of up to 200 meters, or approximately 656 feet.
Smarter Wireless Connection Management
The Pyro 5 4K operates on both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequency bands. Smart Channel Selection scans the surrounding wireless environment during startup and automatically chooses a relatively clean channel, reducing the amount of manual configuration required before filming begins.
Auto Frequency Hopping can switch the connection to a cleaner frequency if interference is detected during operation. Crews working with several Pyro systems can also select channels manually, allowing individual devices to use separate frequencies and helping reduce conflicts in crowded production environments.
Camera Control and Production Tools
The device uses a 5.5-inch touchscreen with 1,500-nit brightness, making it suitable for daylight monitoring. Its built-in tools include Waveform, False Color, Focus Assist, Zebra Pattern, and 3D LUT support, covering many of the exposure, focus, and color checks commonly handled by dedicated field monitors.
Direct Camera Control allows compatible camera settings to be adjusted from the touchscreen. The expanded implementation supports additional Sony, Canon, and Nikon models, although available controls may depend on the connected camera. Its new Image Overlay function displays a reference image over the live feed to help recreate framing across multiple takes.
The Pyro 5 4K can also create proxy recordings on an SD card. These lower-resolution files include embedded timecode data, making them useful for synchronized review, rough cuts, and collaboration before the original high-resolution footage reaches the editing workstation.
A Compact Hub for On-Set Workflows
Connectivity includes HDMI input, HDMI output, and SDI input, giving crews flexibility when working with mirrorless cameras, cinema cameras, switchers, and other production hardware. When Broadcast Mode is disabled, the system can connect to two Pyro devices and two HollyView app clients for more flexible monitoring.
By putting wireless transmission, monitoring, camera control, proxy recording, and streaming support into one device, the Pyro 5 4K could simplify compact production rigs without removing access to professional monitoring features. Hollyland has made the monitor available through local distributors, Amazon, and its online store for $449.
