LG Electronics is pushing competitive gaming displays into four-digit refresh-rate territory with the new LG UltraGear 25G590B. The 25-inch Full HD gaming monitor runs at a native 1000Hz refresh rate, rather than relying on a secondary low-resolution mode to reach its headline speed. It is clearly aimed at esports and highly competitive FPS players, where motion clarity and latency can matter more than resolution or screen size.
Native 1000Hz Changes the Performance Equation
The biggest difference between the 25G590B and conventional high-refresh gaming monitors is straightforward: its 1000Hz mode operates natively at 1920 x 1080 resolution. LG says the monitor can reach 1100Hz when overclocked, although that mode comes with additional limitations. At these refresh rates, the display can update far more frequently than typical 144Hz, 240Hz, or even 500Hz-class monitors, potentially making rapidly moving objects easier to follow.
There is an important hardware catch. According to LG, reaching the maximum 1000Hz refresh rate requires Windows 11, a compatible NVIDIA RTX 50-series or supported AMD Radeon GPU, and a DisplayPort 2.1 connection. Actual performance also depends on the CPU, memory, graphics driver, and whether the game can generate sufficiently high frame rates. In other words, buying a 1000Hz monitor does not magically turn a PC into a 1000fps gaming system.
Built Around Competitive FPS Gaming
LG uses a 25-inch IPS panel, keeping the physical display relatively compact. That format makes sense for competitive shooters because players can monitor most of the screen without large eye or head movements. The Full HD resolution also places a lighter rendering workload on the GPU than higher-resolution formats, an important consideration when extremely high frame rates are the priority.
Motion Blur Reduction Pro is included to improve the visibility of fast-moving objects, while Dynamic Action Sync is designed to minimize input lag. The monitor also supports NVIDIA G-SYNC Compatible and AMD FreeSync Premium operation. However, LG notes that both adaptive-sync technologies are disabled when MBR Pro is active, so players must choose between those technologies rather than using everything simultaneously.
Ergonomics and AI Features Beyond Refresh Rate
The stand supports height, swivel, and tilt adjustments and includes calibration markings, allowing a preferred position to be recreated more easily after the monitor has been moved. A compact stand footprint should also leave additional desk space for the broad mouse movements commonly used by low-sensitivity FPS players. LG additionally integrates a headset hook and UltraGear Emblem lighting.
The 25G590B also includes several on-device AI features. AI Scene Optimization automatically adjusts picture settings according to displayed content, while AI Sound is intended to improve spatial audio and communication when a compatible headset is connected. An integrated FPS Counter provides real-time frame-rate information, which is particularly relevant here because the practical value of a 1000Hz display depends heavily on the frame rates the connected PC can actually produce.
Who Actually Needs a 1000Hz Gaming Monitor?
The UltraGear 25G590B is a specialized display rather than an obvious upgrade for every PC gamer. Its combination of Full HD resolution and extreme refresh rate prioritizes competitive responsiveness over the additional detail offered by 1440p or 4K monitors. That trade-off makes the most sense for esports competitors and serious FPS players running hardware capable of generating exceptionally high frame rates.
The 1100Hz overclock also deserves qualification. LG states that AMD FreeSync Premium is unavailable at 1100Hz, while NVIDIA G-SYNC compatibility is certified only up to 1000Hz. For many competitive setups, the native 1000Hz mode may therefore be the more balanced configuration.
