LG Electronics is taking its party speaker lineup further outdoors with the new LG xboom Blast, a portable Bluetooth speaker built around rugged mobility, long playback time and room-filling sound. Rather than simply putting a handle on a conventional wireless speaker and calling it adventurous, the Blast combines an IP68-rated enclosure, substantial speaker hardware and adaptive audio features aimed at beaches, campsites, poolsides and backyard gatherings.
Big Speaker Hardware for Open Spaces
Outdoor speakers have to work harder because there are no convenient walls to contain and reflect their sound. The xboom Blast tackles that problem with two 5.25-inch neodymium woofers, three passive radiators and two 20mm Peerless tweeters. Its xboom Signature Sound is tuned by will.i.am, with the hardware designed to deliver deeper bass and clear high frequencies across larger listening areas.
Wireless playback is handled over Bluetooth, but LG also includes USB-C audio for users who prefer a wired connection. For bigger setups, Auracast support allows multiple compatible speakers to be connected wirelessly, making the Blast more flexible when a single unit cannot adequately cover a large gathering.
AI Features Adapt Sound to the Environment
The speaker goes beyond fixed equalizer presets with AI Sound, which analyzes audio content in real time and adjusts playback accordingly. Space Calibration Pro takes the surroundings into account, automatically adapting the output to different acoustic environments. That could be particularly useful when moving between an enclosed patio and a wide-open outdoor area where the same audio settings may behave very differently.
LG also includes Sound Field Enhance to create a wider perceived soundstage, while AI Lighting synchronizes the dual ring lighting system with music genres, moods and playlists. The lighting is clearly aimed at the party side of the equation, but automatic sound calibration is arguably the more interesting feature for anyone frequently moving the speaker between locations.
36-Hour Battery Meets IP68 Protection
Portability means considerably less if the speaker spends half the trip attached to a charger. LG rates the xboom Blast for up to 36 hours of playback using its Play Time Enhance technology. Actual endurance will naturally depend on usage conditions, but the headline figure gives the speaker enough theoretical stamina for extended trips or all-day events.
The enclosure carries an IP68 rating, providing dust-tight protection and tested resistance to fresh-water immersion under specified conditions. LG has also put the Blast through seven MIL-STD-810H-based durability tests covering conditions including rain, high temperature, shock, immersion, salt fog, blowing dust and vibration. Those tests do not make it indestructible, obviously, because physics remains annoyingly undefeated, but they reinforce its outdoor-focused positioning.
A Duffel-Inspired Design Built to Move
The Blast looks more like portable outdoor gear than a traditional box-shaped speaker. Its duffel bag-inspired design incorporates a dual fabric handle along with a vertical rope handle, allowing different carrying and placement options. Protective side bumpers and a durable fabric exterior add another practical layer, while the speaker can operate horizontally or vertically depending on the available space.
The design has already received a 2026 Red Dot Design Award, but its functional details matter more than the trophy. Being able to switch orientation and grab the speaker from different positions should make a tangible difference when packing a car, setting up at a campsite or squeezing equipment onto a crowded beach blanket.
Overall, the LG xboom Blast looks like a serious expansion of LG Electronics’ outdoor audio lineup, balancing powerful portable sound with weather-ready durability and useful adaptive technology. Pricing and availability in the United States have not yet been announced and will be confirmed at a later date, so its ultimate value proposition will depend heavily on where LG positions it against other premium outdoor party speakers.
