VMFi is expanding its multilingual communication technology with two AI-powered solutions aimed at removing language barriers in face-to-face services. The company’s TransDisplay T30 combines real-time AI translation with a transparent display, while the upcoming TransEdge shifts multilingual voice processing entirely to edge hardware for environments where privacy and security matter. Both technologies are being highlighted around IFA 2026, but they address somewhat different communication requirements.
TransDisplay T30 Keeps Conversations Face to Face
TransDisplay T30 approaches translation differently from conventional handheld translators or smartphone apps. Its defining feature is a transparent screen positioned between participants, allowing translated text to appear without completely blocking the person on the other side. A directional microphone captures speech for the AI-driven translation system.
The practical advantage is less about replacing interpreters and more about reducing friction during everyday multilingual interactions. Users can continue looking toward each other while reading translations instead of repeatedly shifting attention toward a phone or separate monitor. That could be particularly useful at reception desks, transportation counters, and public service facilities where conversations are typically short but still require clear communication.
Designed for Public-Facing Services
VMFi says TransDisplay is already deployed in environments including airports, train stations, and metro stations. Listed deployments include TPE and TSA airports as well as Taipei101 metro station. The technology has also been adopted by Ome City Government in Tokyo at its Children and Family Center.
That deployment illustrates a more demanding use case for real-time translation. Discussions involving family services can contain detailed or sensitive information where simply conveying basic vocabulary may not be enough. Maintaining natural face-to-face interaction can therefore be useful alongside the translation itself. However, the information provided by VMFi does not specify supported language counts or translation accuracy figures, so those aspects cannot yet be independently compared from the announcement.
TransEdge Moves Voice AI Processing to the Edge
TransEdge tackles a different issue: what happens to spoken information while AI is translating it. VMFi describes the system as providing real-time multilingual communication with processing performed completely on edge, rather than depending on remote processing infrastructure.
This architecture is particularly relevant for organizations handling confidential conversations. VMFi positions TransEdge for areas such as finance and public security, where transmitting voice data beyond the local environment can introduce additional privacy and compliance considerations. The company also says the system is designed with GDPR compliance in mind. TransEdge is scheduled to be unveiled at IFA 2026, so detailed hardware specifications and performance information were not included in the announcement.
Two Approaches to the Same Language Barrier
Although both products revolve around AI translation, their priorities are different. TransDisplay T30 focuses primarily on making translated conversations feel more natural through its transparent display and directional audio capture. TransEdge, meanwhile, emphasizes local processing for organizations with stricter data-security requirements.
Together, the products show how multilingual AI is moving beyond translation apps toward dedicated communication infrastructure. The most interesting aspect is not simply generating translated text, but integrating translation into places where people already interact. Detailed pricing was not disclosed. TransEdge is set to be presented at IFA 2026 in Berlin at Hall 25, Booth 243, while TransDisplay is already being used in several public-facing locations. More technical details, particularly around supported languages, latency, and edge hardware, will be important for evaluating how these systems compare with other translation platforms as VMFi expands the technology.
