ASUS Dual Mode Monitors Go 4K and Ultra-Fast

ASUS ROG Strix and TUF Dual Mode Displays Launch

ASUS has expanded its gaming monitor lineup with three new 27-inch 4K Dual Mode displays: the ROG Strix XG27UCG Gen2, ROG Strix XG27UCS Gen2, and TUF Gaming VG27UQEL5A. Instead of forcing gamers to choose between sharp 4K visuals and extremely high refresh rates, these monitors try to do both in one screen.

The idea is simple but useful: run the monitor in 4K mode when visual detail matters, then switch to a lower-resolution high refresh rate mode when speed becomes the priority. That makes the lineup interesting for users who jump between cinematic single-player games, competitive shooters, content viewing, and everyday desktop work.

Dual Mode Is the Main Trick Here

The headline feature across all three models is Dual Mode technology. On the ROG Strix XG27UCG Gen2, users can switch between 4K at 162Hz and FHD at 485Hz. The ROG Strix XG27UCS Gen2 offers 4K at 160Hz and FHD at 324Hz, while the TUF Gaming VG27UQEL5A runs at 4K at 80Hz or FHD at 310Hz.

This gives each model a different personality. The XG27UCG Gen2 is clearly the speed monster of the trio, aimed at competitive FPS players who still want 4K when they are not chasing frame-perfect reactions. The XG27UCS Gen2 keeps a strong 4K experience while offering a still-fast FHD mode, and the TUF model targets mainstream gamers who want the same concept at a more accessible level.

ROG Strix Models Aim Higher

The ROG Strix XG27UCG Gen2 and XG27UCS Gen2 both use 27-inch Fast IPS panels with 3840 x 2160 resolution and a minimum 0.3ms response time. Both also support HDR, Adaptive Sync, factory pre-calibration, and AI Assistant technology.

The key difference is refresh rate. The XG27UCG Gen2 reaches FHD at 485Hz, making it the more aggressive choice for esports-style gameplay. It also includes Aura Sync lighting on its rear panel. The XG27UCS Gen2, meanwhile, offers FHD at 324Hz, which is still very fast for most gamers.

TUF Gaming VG27UQEL5A Keeps It Practical

The TUF Gaming VG27UQEL5A takes the same Dual Mode concept and trims it into a more mainstream package. It still has a 27-inch 4K Fast IPS panel, a 0.3ms minimum response time, HDR support, ELMB Sync, and Adaptive Sync, but its 4K mode is capped at 80Hz.

Its real party trick is the FHD at 310Hz mode, which gives fast-paced gamers a serious refresh-rate boost without moving into the more premium ROG Strix tier. It also uses a 120% sRGB color gamut, making it suitable not only for gaming but also casual creative work, streaming, and general visual-heavy use.

Smart Pixel Adds 4K Upscaling

All three monitors feature ASUS Smart Pixel technology, which enhances visuals when users switch to lower-resolution high-refresh modes. The goal is to make FHD gameplay look sharper and more detailed instead of turning the image into a blurry mess.

This matters because Dual Mode monitors always face one big question: what happens to image quality when the resolution drops? Smart Pixel tries to soften that compromise by using advanced 4K upscaling and frame enhancement, helping lower-resolution gameplay retain more clarity on a 4K panel.

Which Model Makes the Most Sense?

The best option depends on how you play. Choose the ROG Strix XG27UCG Gen2 if you want the fastest option, especially for competitive shooters. Pick the ROG Strix XG27UCS Gen2 if you want a balanced ROG display with strong 4K performance and fast FHD gameplay. Go for the TUF Gaming VG27UQEL5A if you want Dual Mode flexibility without necessarily chasing the highest possible refresh rate.

ASUS says the ROG Strix XG27UCG Gen2, ROG Strix XG27UCS Gen2, and TUF Gaming VG27UQEL5A are now available. Pricing may vary by region and retailer, so final buying decisions will depend on local stock and market availability. For gamers who want one display for both visual quality and speed, ASUS now has three clear options in its Dual Mode lineup.
