  1. This two way radio has the clearest reception that I have ever heard. Also, it is very easy to use. Everyone should have a radio in the case of an emergency and this one is the most ideal.

  2. Ok, how did you get a hold of the r765? I haven’t seen it ANYWHERE apart from the news release that has been floating around.

I’m pretty sure apart from volume alone the quality is the same as the vocoders that are used on iDEN, which could either be VSELP or AMBE++ for its built in talkaround radio-to-radio operation. But its performance on the iDEN network will be the same as other iDEN handsets.

I fail to see how this would be MORE ideal than any other iDEN handset in an emergency situation though. I think a wideband HF/VHF/UHF transceiver would be able to trip more repeaters if you really needed help.

  3. Ahh Trent is not up to speed…they are available from SouthernLinc and Sprintnextel, Cost $850 for the non IS version from SouthernLinc and is 1watt TX power. (list is about $2K for the IS version and .6w) They do not compair to a consumer nextel/phone. The receiver is much more sensitive. I carry a r750plus daily 24/7 since 2001 and it works where all others have no signal. It has over 162,150 minutes use on it! In a truck or boat with a 5 watt Wilson amp and roof antenna…I have coverage where ever I need it. And if that doesn’t cover it I have an Iridium Satphone as a backup. Never had to use it yet! The 750 and it’s replacement the 765 have real 1/2 wave gain antennas where all other phones have a wire 1/4 whip including the 325 & 365 IS just rubber coverd fixed models. The receivers are the difference, the consumer phones have poor specs, where these two have high end boards and specs. similar to the astro series radios. The 765 is based on the Tetra line. I’m in the process of upgrading to the 765 now.
