Xiaomi Watch 5 Series Brings Sapphire and EMG Control

Xiaomi Watch 5 Series

Xiaomi officially expanded its wearable lineup with the Xiaomi Watch 5 Series, positioning it as a flagship smartwatch family that prioritizes hardware durability, health accuracy, and long-term battery efficiency. Unveiled alongside Xiaomi’s latest smartphones and AIoT products, the Watch 5 Series reflects Xiaomi’s ongoing effort to close the gap between consumer smartwatches and professional-grade wearable devices.

Rather than chasing cosmetic upgrades, Xiaomi focuses on structural materials, sensing technology, and internal architecture. The Xiaomi Watch 5 Series includes multiple variants, each built around the same core platform but tailored for different usage priorities, ranging from daily fitness tracking to extended smart performance with cellular connectivity.

Dual Sapphire Design and Larger AMOLED Display

One of the most distinctive hardware decisions in the Xiaomi Watch 5 Series is the use of dual sapphire glass on both the front and rear surfaces. This choice significantly improves scratch resistance and long-term durability compared to conventional smartwatch glass, especially for users who wear their device continuously.

The watch features a 47mm case constructed from unibody 316L stainless steel, paired with a 1.54-inch AMOLED display. With a 78.28% screen-to-body ratio and peak brightness reaching 1,500 nits, the screen remains readable under direct sunlight while maintaining strong color contrast and power efficiency.

Dual-Chip Architecture for Performance and Endurance

At the core of the Xiaomi Watch 5 Series is a rare dual-chip architecture, combining a 4nm Snapdragon W5 platform with a secondary 6nm BES2800 low-power chip. This setup allows the watch to dynamically switch between high-performance tasks and background monitoring without excessive battery drain.

Supported by a 930mAh battery, the Watch 5 Series delivers up to 6 days of usage in Performance Mode and up to 18 days in Power Saving Mode. This balance makes the device suitable for users who expect smartwatch features without daily charging routines.

EMG-Based Gesture Control and Health Tracking

A major functional upgrade comes from the introduction of an EMG sensor, working alongside PPG and inertial sensors. This enables Xiaomi’s most advanced gesture control system to date, supporting seven distinct gestures for navigation and cross-device interaction without direct touch input.

Health and fitness features include ECG analysis, continuous heart rate monitoring, blood oxygen tracking, and support for over 150 sports modes. The system is enhanced with 3D animated workout guidance, offering clearer visual cues for training sessions without relying on external devices.

Variants and Everyday Practicality

The Xiaomi Watch 5 Series is offered in standard and eSIM-enabled variants, allowing users to choose between traditional Bluetooth connectivity or independent cellular operation. A 3D-printed titanium strap option weighs just 43g, roughly 50% lighter than standard stainless steel alternatives, improving comfort during extended wear.

Xiaomi confirms that the Watch 5 Series will be available through official channels starting December 2025, with pricing positioned in the premium smartwatch segment while remaining competitive. As with other flagship wearables from Xiaomi, the focus remains on delivering hardware-first value rather than short-lived software gimmicks.
